Regular Season Round 1: Boa Viagem - Academico FC 67-56

Boa Viagem used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Porto 67-56 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Boa Viagem. Academico FC was better in fourth quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Academico FC to just 4 points in first quarter. Academico FC was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Ugandan forward Claire Lamunu (185-93, college: Vanguard) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Catarina Caldeira (167-89) chipped in 15 points. Four Boa Viagem players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Susana Lopes (168-96) responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds and the former international forward Francisca Braga (180-90) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Boa Viagem will face Vitoria SC (#12) in Guimaraes in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Academico FC will play on the road against Uniao Sportiva (#6) in Ponta Delgada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
