Regular Season Round 2: Vaerlose - Stevnsgade 38-76

Date: October 8, 2017
Very significant was Stevnsgade's (#4) 38-point road victory against Vaerlose 76-38. The game without a history. Stevnsgade led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Vaerlose to just 5 points in third quarter. Stevnsgade held Vaerlose to an opponent 20.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 40.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Stevnsgade forced 23 Vaerlose turnovers and outrebounded them 46-35 including 37 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Stevnsgade brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Forward Emilie Hesseldal (186-90, college: Colorado St.) notched 9 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals to lead the effort and the former international forward Hanna Sheikh (180-92) supported her with 24 points. Even 8 points and 6 rebounds by American center Paige Cashin (193-95, college: S.Florida) did not help to save the game for Vaerlose. Forward Trine Drejer (-98) added 7 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Stevnsgade will play against Virum at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vaerlose will play against Lemvig (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
