Regular Season Round 4: EWE Baskets - Bayreuth 88-89

Date: October 13, 2017
Very significant was BBC Bayreuth's (#2) just 1-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers EWE Baskets 89-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of EWE Baskets. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They outrebounded EWE Baskets 28-17. The winners were led by Egyptian forward Assem Marei (206-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) who scored that evening 21 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and American guard Gabe York (190-93, college: Arizona) supported him with 16 points. Even 14 points, 7 assists and 4 steals by American point guard Mickey McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) did not help to save the game for EWE Baskets. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) added 16 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. BBC Bayreuth have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Wuerzburg. EWE Baskets at the other side dropped to the fifth place with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. BBC Bayreuth will play against Science City Jena (#13) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. EWE Baskets will play against Bayern Muenchen (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
