Regular Season Round 2: Lusitania - Barreirense 89-77

Very predictable result when Lusitania (2-2) won against Barreirense (0-4) in Angra 89-77 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-77. Lusitania made 25-of-26 free shots (96.2 percent) during the game, while Barreirense only scored eight points from the stripe. It was a good game for American guard Four McGlynn (188-92, college: Rhode Island) who led his team to a victory with 40 points (!!!). Naturalized Cape Verdean forward Joel Almeida (195-85, college: Brockport St.) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Montenegrin forward Miki Novovic (208-92) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and American forward Phillip Lawrence (201, college: Marist) added 23 points in the effort for Barreirense. Lusitania will face Illiabum in Ilhavo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barreirense will play at home against Ovarense (#9) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
