Regular Season Round 5: Leitershofen - Jena II 90-76

Very expected game in Diedorf where bottom-ranked Jena II (0-4) was defeated by ninth ranked Topstar (2-2) 90-76 on Saturday. Topstar dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Jena II's 26. They outrebounded Jena II 45-17 including a 22-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jena II was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Bernhard Benke (206-97) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and naturalized American forward Dominik Veney (198-87) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Jan Heber (187-98) responded with 18 points and Benjamin Dizdar (192) scored 19 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Topstar moved-up to seventh place in South-East. Loser Jena II still closes the standings with four games lost. Topstar will face higher ranked Oberhaching (#3) in Deisenhofen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jena II will play at home against Rosenheim (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
