Date: October 15, 2017
Very significant was Eisvogel Freiburg's (#5) 25-point road victory against 6th ranked Krofdorf/Gleib. in South 79-54. The game without a history. Eisvogel Freiburg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Eisvogel Freiburg outrebounded Krofdorf/Gleib. 33-18 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by forward Kirsten Gaffney (185) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and American guard Kelly Hughes (180, college: Boston Coll.) supported her with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Eisvogel Freiburg's coach Pierre Hohn felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 14 points and 5 rebounds by American guard Erin Bratcher (176-92, college: Charleston So.) did not help to save the game for Krofdorf/Gleib.. Her fellow American import forward Chelsea Small (184, college: Indiana St.) added 12 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Eisvogel Freiburg (3-1) moved-up to second place in South, which they share with Bad Homburg and Weiterstadt. Krofdorf/Gleib. at the other side keeps the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Keltern II. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against Wasserburg II (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Krofdorf/Gleib. will play against the league's second-placed Homburger TG and hopes to get back on the winning track.
