Regular Season Round 6: Mykolaiv - Politekhnik 72-66

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Politekhnik (1-6) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Mykolaiv (3-3) 72-66 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-18. But Politekhnik won second period 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Mykolaiv won last quarter 14-10. Center Oleksandr Kushnirov (210-92) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Konstantin Anikenko (218-92) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Mykolaiv's coach Sergei Kirlan used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American guard Bo Barnes (193-90, college: Arizona St., agency: Haylett Sports) with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists and Serbian point guard Vuk Jovanovic (183-95) scored 14 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mykolaiv maintains fifth position with 3-3 record. Loser Politekhnik keeps the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Zaporizhye. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
