Bottom-ranked Recklinghausen (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 78-53 loss to eighth ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (2-1) in Recklinghausen. The game without a history. Rotenburg/Scheessel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Rotenburg/Scheessel forced 19 Recklinghausen turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Shaniqua Nilles (183-93, college: Gonzaga) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) accounted for 18 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American guard Kiki Robertson (170, college: Alaska-Anch.) came up with 10 points and 9 rebounds and Bosnian forward Lejla Bejtic (176-85) added 13 points and 5 steals respectively for Recklinghausen in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Recklinghausen's coach Peer Reckinger gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Rotenburg/Scheessel moved-up to fifth place in North. Newly promoted Recklinghausen still closes the standings with five games lost. Rotenburg/Scheessel's next round opponent will be league's second-placed TG Neuss at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Recklinghausen will play against the league's leader Osnabrueck SC (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
