Very expected game when 12th ranked OrangeAcademy (1-4) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (4-1) 91-74 on Sunday. Crailsheim Merlins made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 OrangeAcademy turnovers. Crailsheim Merlins looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by OrangeAcademy's players. Jamaican-American power forward Sherman Gay (201-82, college: Loyola Mary) stepped up and scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and American guard Chase Griffin (190-83, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Bjoern Rohwer (213-95) responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Hungarian point guard Marcell Pongo (194-97) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. OrangeAcademy's coach Daniel Jansson rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Crailsheim Merlins moved-up to second place, which they share with Phoenix Hagen and Hamburg. OrangeAcademy lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face Koeln Rh.Stars (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. OrangeAcademy will play against Phoenix Hagen (#4) and hope to win that game.
