Regular Season Round 4: CAB Madeira - Alges 66-59

Rather expected game in Funchal where 8th ranked Alges (1-3) were defeated by fifth ranked CAB Madeira (3-1) 66-59 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Alges won second period 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CAB Madeira dominated on the defensive end, holding Alges to just 7 points in third quarter. They also forced 24 Alges turnovers and had a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international power forward Rosinha Rosario (182-89, college: Gulf Coast CC) who helped to win the game recording 11 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward MacKenzie Rowland (188, college: Queens, NY) who added 13 points during the contest. At the losing side Angolan forward Artemis Afonso (175-93) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Margarida Junqueira scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. CAB Madeira moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Alges dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. CAB Madeira will face Lombos Quinta (#4) in Carcavelos in the next round. Alges will play at home against Olivais (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
