Regular Season Round 6: Rocks - Lions 85-87

A very close game took place in Mattersburg between Lions and Rocks. Third ranked Lions (5-1) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Rocks (3-3). Lions managed to escape with a 2-point win 87-85 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rocks. The best player for the winners was Spanish center Antoni Vicens (204-90) who scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Spanish guard Ander Arruti (190-90) chipped in 24 points. Lions' coach Inaki Merino used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian-Slovenian center Fuad Memcic (209-82, agency: Promotex) who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian guard Joey Vickery (178-67) added 15 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Four Rocks players scored in double figures. Lions moved-up to second place, which they share with Mustangs. Loser Rocks dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Blackbirds. Lions will meet at home bottom-ranked Worthersee Piraten (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rocks will play against Flames (#4) in Vienna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
