Regular Season Round 2: Vasco - Maia Basket 63-71

There was no surprise in Porto where Vasco (0-2) was defeated by Maia Basket (1-0) 71-63 on Saturday. Vasco trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 18-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 63-71 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Vasco 45-27 including a 36-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. British guard Devan Bailey (187-89, college: Cent.Conn.St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Sandro Madureira (186-96) produced 14 points and 4 steals and forward Emanuel Vaz (188-92) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Maia Basket will face Dragon Force (#4) in Porto in the next round. Vasco will play on the road against Sampaense in Coimbra and hope to win that game.
