Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked WSG Koenigs (1-4) were edged by eighth ranked Weser Bsk/BTS (3-3) in Neustadt 71-69 on Saturday. Weser Bsk/BTS shot 24 for 34 from the free-throw line, while WSG Koenigs only scored five points from the stripe. Weser Bsk/BTS forced 23 WSG Koenigs turnovers. WSG Koenigs were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for naturalized Congolese forward Blanchard Obiango (202-88) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Jonas Liermann (197-87) contributed with 15 points and 4 steals for the winners. Four Weser Bsk/BTS players scored in double figures. Point guard Paul Giese (183-97) answered with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Thomas Schoeps (188-89, college: Odessa JC) added 11 points and 5 assists in the effort for WSG Koenigs. WSG Koenigs' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Weser Bsk/BTS moved-up to seventh place in North. WSG Koenigs lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Weser Bsk/BTS will face Stade (#11) on the road in the next round. WSG Koenigs will play against Rendsburg and hope to win that game.
