Regular Season Round 5: Academico FC - AD Vagos 40-43

A very interesting game took place in Porto. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Academico FC (1-4) to third ranked AD Vagos (4-1) 43-40 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. AD Vagos dominated on the defensive end, holding Academico FC to just 4 points in fourth quarter. American forward Brittni Montgomery (190-92, college: Cent.Florida) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and international point guard Ines Faustino (170-92) accounted for 13 points. Joana Cortinhas (182-95) came up with 12 points and Isabel Costa (185-97) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Academico FC in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. AD Vagos moved-up to second place, which they share with GDESSA. Academico FC at the other side keeps the tenth position with four games lost. AD Vagos' next round opponent will be Boa Viagem (#9) in Angra Heroismo and are hoping to win another game. Academico FC will play on the road against Olivais in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
