Regular Season Round 7: Bamberg - Leitershofen 67-80

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Bamberg (2-4) lost at home to fifth ranked Topstar (4-2) 80-67 on Sunday. Topstar outrebounded Bamberg 49-32 including a 38-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for Bernhard Benke (206-97) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Slovenian guard Emanuel Richter (192-86) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. Dutch forward Frederik Adriaans (200-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Kevin Jefferson (175-96) added 14 points in the effort for Bamberg. Four Bamberg players scored in double figures. Bamberg's coach Rainer Wolfschmitt rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Topstar. They maintain fifth place in South-East with 4-2 record, which they share with Oberhaching. Loser Bamberg dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Topstar will face Schwabing (#11) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Bamberg will play against Oberhaching in Deisenhofen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
