Regular Season Round 6: B.Loewen - Gruenberg 64-59

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when ninth ranked B.Loewen (2-2) won against at home 8th ranked Baskets Grunberg (2-4) 64-59 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Baskets Grunberg won third quarter 26-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when B.Loewen won last quarter 16-13. They also forced 24 Baskets Grunberg turnovers. Strangely Baskets Grunberg outrebounded B.Loewen 40-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American guard Deeshyra Thomas (168-95, college: Weber St.) who led her team to a victory with 22 points and 8 steals. Center Viktoria Jaeger (184) contributed with 13 points for the winners. American forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!) and swingman Isabell Meinhart (178-94) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Baskets Grunberg. Baskets Grunberg's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. B.Loewen moved-up to seventh place in North, which they share with BG 89 Avides. Baskets Grunberg lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. B.Loewen will face higher ranked TuSLi Berlin (#6) in Lichterfelde in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Baskets Grunberg will play on the road against SG BBZ Opladen in Leverkusen and hope to win that game.
