Regular Season Round 5: GDESSA - Boa Viagem 62-56

Date: October 29, 2017
There was no surprise in Barreiro where 9th ranked Boa Viagem (2-4) was defeated by third ranked GDESSA (4-1) 62-56. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-14. But Boa Viagem won second period 14-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Boa Viagem 44-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. American forward Ashli Payne (183-95, college: E.Washington, agency: Gamble Sports Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and Marcia Costa (173-89) accounted for 13 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Ugandan forward Claire Lamunu (185-93, college: Vanguard) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Sara Dickey (180-95, college: Evansville) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Boa Viagem in the defeat. Boa Viagem's coach Roberto Simoes rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with AD Vagos. Boa Viagem lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with four games lost. GDESSA's next round opponent will be Alges (#8) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. Boa Viagem will play against the league's second-placed AD Vagos and hope to win that game.
