Regular Season Round 5: Mersin BSB - Bornova 93-49

Bottom-ranked Bornova is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to eighth ranked Mersin BSB (3-2) 93-49 on Saturday evening. Mersin BSB dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Bornova's 38. Mersin BSB forced 20 Bornova turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Bornova's players. American center Krystal Thomas (195-89, college: Duke) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Bosnian-Slovenian power forward Marica Gajic (187-95) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Mersin BSB players scored in double figures. American point guard Ashleigh Fontenette (172-89, college: Texas) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Saziye Ivegin (183-82) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Bornova. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Mersin BSB. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Bornova lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. Mersin BSB will face bottom-ranked Istanbul Uni (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bornova will play against Adana ASKI and hopes to get finally their first victory.
