Regular Season Round 5: Galatasaray - Yakin Dogu 71-77

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Yakin Dogu BGD (#3) and Galatasaray (#5). Galatasaray was defeated at home 71-77 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Yakin Dogu BGD outrebounded Galatasaray 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. The former international center Quanitra Hollingsworth (196-88, college: VCU) nailed 20 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winning side and Hungarian-American point guard Courtney Vandersloot (173-89, college: Gonzaga) accounted for 16 points and 9 assists. Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (196-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the former international guard Isil Alben (170-86, agency: ProDep Management) added 10 points and 8 assists respectively for Galatasaray in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galatasaray's coach Marina Maljkovic rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Yakin Dogu BGD. Defending champion (5-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Fenerbahce and Hatay. Loser Galatasaray dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Yakin Dogu BGD's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Fenerbahce.
