Regular Season Round 7: Juventus - Vytautas 98-85

Bottom-ranked Vytautas is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to ninth ranked Juventus (2-8) 98-85. It looked good early as Vytautas took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Juventus had a 27-20 second period charge getting the lead and Vytautas was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-98. Juventus shot 25 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Vytautas only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Vytautas 32-20 including 21 on the defensive glass. Vytautas was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American point guard Anthony Ireland (175-91, college: Loyola Mary, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points. Forward Arvydas Siksnius (196-87, college: Weatherford JC) helped adding 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Juventus' coach Gediminas Petrauskas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side swingman Tomas Dimsa (198-94) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and international forward Martynas Linkevicius (197-85, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 18 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Juventus moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Siauliai. Vytautas lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Juventus will play against higher ranked Lietuvos rytas (#3) in Vilnius in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vytautas will play at home against P.Zvaigzdes (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
