Regular Season Round 7: Interkhim - Tavriyska Zirka 61-52

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zirka (0-10) lost to second ranked Interkhim (8-1) in Odessa 52-61 on Sunday. Tavriyska Zirka trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 16-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 52-61 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Tavriyska Zirka 44-29 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for point guard Yelyzaveta Mitina (172-98) who helped to win the game recording 27 points. Center Diana Bondaryuk (197-85) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Interkhim's coach Iryna Shchipakina used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Point guard Olga Nazarenko (168-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Marharyta Hliebova (187-96) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Tavriyska Zirka. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Interkhim. They maintain second place with 8-1 record having just three points less than leader Kyiv Basket. Tavriyska Zirka lost their tenth game in a row. They still close the standings with ten games lost. Interkhim will face Vinnystkiye M. (#5) in Vinnytsia in the next round. Tavriyska Zirka will play on the road against Rivne and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
