Regular Season Round 8: Wasserburg II - Speyer 70-75

There was an upset when higher ranked Wasserburg II (3-3) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (2-5) 75-70 on Saturday. Wasserburg II was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was point guard Annika Netter (172) who scored 32 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Speyer / Schifferstadt's coach Marcel Kalamorz used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Anna Heise (188-93, college: Maine) produced a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and Austrian guard Julia Poecksteiner (177-93) added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Speyer / Schifferstadt moved-up to ninth place in South, which they share with Rhein MB and Bamberg. Loser Wasserburg II dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt will face Rhein Main Baskets (#10) in Langen in the next round. Wasserburg II will play on the road against Keltern II (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
