Regular Season Round 4: Sanjoanense - Esgueira 50-58

The game between Top Four teams took place in Sao Joao. 4th ranked host Sanjoanense (2-2) lost to top-ranked Esgueira / Oli (4-0) 58-50. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sanjoanense won third quarter 12-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Esgueira / Oli dominated on the defensive end, holding Sanjoanense to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Strangely Sanjoanense outrebounded Esgueira / Oli 46-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for American forward Dee Franklin (196, college: Belhaven) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Pedro Seabra (-94) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Franklin is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Esgueira / Oli's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Spanish power forward Sergi Coll (204-82) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds and forward Pedro Azevedo (193-81) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Sanjoanense. Esgueira / Oli have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position in North with 4-0 record. Sanjoanense at the other side keeps the fourth place with two games lost. Esgueira / Oli's next round opponent will be Academico FC (#7) in Porto where they are favorite. Sanjoanense will play on the road against the league's second-placed Maia Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
