Regular Season Round 4: Ginasio - Academica 63-69

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Ginasio (3-1) in Figueira da Foz on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Academica (2-2) 69-63. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ginasio. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 21-9 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Academica forced 25 Ginasio turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of Russian forward Alexander Kravtsov (194-87) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Goncalo Ferreira (180) who added 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Academica's coach Ivo Rego used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international center Marco Goncalves (206-84) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds and naturalized Cape Verdean forward Joaquim Soares (198-83) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Academica moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Benfica B. Ginasio at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. Academica is looking forward to face Moscavide (#8) at home in the next round. Ginasio will play against the league's leader Belenenses CF (#1) in Lisbona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
