Academik Plovdiv (#4) was upset in Varna by eighth ranked Cherno More 81-71. The game was mostly controlled by Cherno More. Academik Plovdiv was better in third quarter 23-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international forward Sim Iliev (204-89, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Tsvetoslav Ostrev (175-86) supported him with 21 points. Even a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) by the former international Stanislav Vaklinov (207-89, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Academik Plovdiv. American point guard Isiah Umipig (183-92, college: Seattle) added 19 points. Four Academik Plovdiv players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cherno More (1-4) left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Yambol. It was Academik Plovdiv's third loss in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Cherno More will play against bottom-ranked Spartak Pleven (#9) on the road in the next round.
