There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Jonava (5-7) defeated at home 8th ranked Ereliai Mazeikiai (5-7) 76-72 on Saturday. They outrebounded Ereliai Mazeikiai 34-21 including a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American guard Ebuka Anyaorah (193-90, college: N.C.Central) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Karolis Sarukas (198-95) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Anyaorah is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Jonava players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Ignas Razutis (185-87) who recorded 16 points and 4 assists and forward Aurimas Urbonas (190-93) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Jonava moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Ereliai Mazeikiai. Jonava will meet at home higher ranked Taurages (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Ereliai Mazeikiai will play against Perlas (#13) in Vilnius and hope to secure a win.
