There was no surprise in Kyiv where 8th ranked Zaporizhye (1-9) was defeated by second ranked Budivelnyk (8-2) 78-66 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Budivelnyk made 7 blocks. Naturalized Lithuanian center Michailis Anisimovas (214-84) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Ruslan Otverchenko (192-90, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. Five Budivelnyk players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Stanislav Ovdeyenko (190-84, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) responded with 7 points and 6 assists and center Yevgen Vornik (208-86) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Zaporizhye's coach Valeriy Plehanov let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Budivelnyk have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-2 record having just one point less than leader Dnipro. Zaporizhye lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Budivelnyk will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Zaporizhye will play against Bipa Basket (#3) and hope to win that game.
