Regular Season Round 9: Crailsheim - Vechta 77-73

Round 9 in ProA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Crailsheim where host Crailsheim Merlins (8-1) beat league's leader SC Rasta Vechta (7-1) 77-73 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of SC Rasta Vechta. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Crailsheim Merlins made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Jamaican-American power forward Sherman Gay (201-82, college: Loyola Mary) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international forward Konrad Wysocki (202-82, college: Princeton) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American Seth Hinrichs (201-93, college: Lafayette, agency: Duran International) who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Chris Carter (195-92, college: Florida Tech, agency: Interperformances) added 15 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Crailsheim Merlins have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. SC Rasta Vechta at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Crailsheim. SC Rasta Vechta will play next round against Chemnitz trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Crailsheim Merlins will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Karlsruhe PS on the road.
