Regular Season Round 9: Mainz - Koblenz 66-87
Date: November 12, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Mainz (3-6) was outplayed at home by sixth ranked Koblenz (6-3) 87-66 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Koblenz. Mainz was better in third quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American forward Marlin Mason (201-93, college: Cleveland St.) who scored 26 points and 6 rebounds. Croatian forward Emilio Banic (197-93) chipped in 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) who recorded 15 points and 4 assists and Latvian forward Janis Dumburs (198-96) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Koblenz. They moved-up to fourth place in South-West, which they share with Kaiserslautern. Loser Mainz keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. Koblenz will face Limburg (#14) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
