Regular Season Round 6: Illiabum - Terceira 99-75

Rather expected game in Ilhavo where 6th ranked Terceira (4-4) was crushed by third ranked Illiabum (6-2) 99-75. It looked good early as Terceira took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Illiabum had a 27-10 second period charge getting the lead and Terceira was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-99. Illiabum dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Terceira's 42. Illiabum forced 28 Terceira turnovers. Strangely Terceira outrebounded Illiabum 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard Ronnie Boggs (192-91, college: Jacksonville St.) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 5 assists. Naturalized Montenegrin forward Marko Loncovic (202-91) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Marcus Van (201-87, college: Cent.Michigan) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Isaiah Johnson (183-93, college: Young Harris) added 15 points and 7 assists in the effort for Terceira. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Illiabum have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record behind leader Benfica, which they share with Vitoria SC. Newly promoted Terceira dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. Illiabum's next round opponent will be Vitoria SC (#4) in Guimaraes. Terceira will play at home against Galitos-Barreiro and hope to win that game.
