Regular Season Round 9: Petkim - Yalova Bld 61-70

Yalova Bld's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after eight consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Petkim, where they defeated Socar Petkim (1-8) 70-61 on Saturday. Yalova Bld dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Socar Petkim's 20. American guard Markel Starks (188-91, college: Georgetown) nailed 31 points for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Mikael Hopkins (206-93, college: Georgetown) accounted for 8 points and 9 rebounds. The former international Umit Sonkol (206-82) came up with 14 points and Efekan Cosar (195-94) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Socar Petkim in the defeat. Socar Petkim's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Yalova Bld left bottom position moving up to seventeenth place, which they share with Petkim. It was Socar Petkim's eighth loss in a row. Yalova Bld will meet at home higher ranked Samsun (#14) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Socar Petkim will play against Orman Genclik in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
