Regular Season Round 7: Beroe - Academic Sofia 66-95

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Stara Zagora. Second ranked Lukoil Acad. faced 4th placed Beroe. Guests from Sofia (5-1) smashed host Beroe (3-3) 95-66. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Acad.. Beroe was better in second period 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Beroe to just 4 points in first quarter. Lukoil Acad. dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 26. Lukoil Acad. forced 23 Beroe turnovers. Strangely Beroe outrebounded Lukoil Acad. 38-25 including 17 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Keith Clanton (205-90, college: Cent.Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international Pavlin Ivanov (195-93, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Four Lukoil Acad. players scored in double figures. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Sharon Drucker felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. International forward Aleksandar Yanev-Georgiev (203-90, agency: 011 Sports) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Ivorian forward Adjehi Baru (206-91, college: Charleston, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Beroe. Lukoil Acad. have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 5-1 record behind leader Balkan. Beroe lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Levski 2014 and Akademik PL. Lukoil Acad. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Beroe will play on the road against Cherno More (#7) in Varna and hopes to get back on the winning track.
