Regular Season Round 9: Bursaspor - Karesi Spor 72-74

The most exciting game of round 9 in the TBL took place in Bursa. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Bursaspor (5-4) to eighth ranked Karesi Spor (5-4) 74-72 in the game for the fifth place. Karesi Spor outrebounded Bursaspor 38-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Bursaspor helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Nigerian-American power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville, agency: HMS) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Serbian power forward Dejan Borovnjak (207-86, agency: BeoBasket) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and Croatian guard Karlo Vragovic (192-89, agency: BeoExcell) added 10 points and 5 assists in the effort for Bursaspor. Four Bursaspor players scored in double figures. Bursaspor's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Karesi Spor moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Bursaspor. Karesi Spor is looking forward to face league's leader Turk Telekom in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bursaspor will play on the road against Akhisar Bld (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
