Regular Season Round 10: Herford - Hertener Loewen 84-92

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Herford (5-6) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Hertener Loewen (8-3) 92-84 on Saturday. Hertener Loewen made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Herford turnovers. American power forward Dijon Smith (203-89, college: Ft.Hays State) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. British guard Jordan Whelan (193-94, college: MidAmerica Naz.) chipped in 31 points. Canadian-British forward Kris Douse (198-86, college: Point Park) produced 28 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Bastian Landgraf (194-95) added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hertener Loewen moved-up to third place in West, which they share with Recklinghausen. Herford lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. Hertener Loewen will face Salzkotten (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Herford will play against the league's second-placed Grevenbroich and hope to win that game.
