Very predictable result when seventh ranked Mersin BSB (4-2) smashed on the road bottom-ranked Istanbul Uni (0-6) 86-66 on Saturday. They outrebounded Istanbul Uni 45-32 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Krystal Thomas (195-89, college: Duke) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Bria Hartley (173-92, college: Connecticut) chipped in 24 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Mersin BSB players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Rebekah Gardner (185-90, college: UCLA) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: ProDep Management) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Mersin BSB have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Abdullah Gul. Loser Istanbul Uni still closes the standings with six games lost. Mersin BSB will face Besiktas (#11) in Istanbul in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Istanbul Uni will play on the road against Bornova and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
