Regular Season Round 6: Timisoara - Alexandria 74-76

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Liga Nationala took place in Timisoara. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Timisoara (2-3) to third ranked Alexandria (4-2) 76-74 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Timisoara. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 26-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Alexandria made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Timisoara outrebounded Alexandria 47-34 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Timisoara helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Nigerian guard Promise Amukamara (173-93, college: Arizona St.) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Carla Bartee (182-85, college: Mississippi) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Alexandria players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Leeza Burdgess (194-90, college: La Salle) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Dlesha Lloyd (179-86, college: Clemson) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Alexandria maintains third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Satu Mare. Newly promoted Timisoara keeps the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Cluj Napoca. Alexandria are looking forward to face ICIM Arad (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Timisoara will play against Alba Iulia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
