Regular Season Round 5: Sampaense - Dragon Force 72-66

There was no surprise in Coimbra where 6th ranked Dragon Force (1-4) was defeated by leader Sampaense (4-0) 72-66 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Sampaense outrebounded Dragon Force 41-23 including 30 on the defensive glass. Dragon Force was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Jordan Martin (203-93, college: Missouri St.) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Diogo Goncalves (200-87) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Sampaense players scored in double figures. Cape Verdean center Kevin-Clay Gomes (209-95) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and Vladyslav Voytso (200-99) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Dragon Force's coach Joao Perdo Goncalves let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sampaense have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Maia Basket. Dragon Force lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with four games lost. Sampaense will face league's leader Esgueira / Oli on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Dragon Force will play against Beira Mar (#8) in Aveiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
