Regular Season Round 7: Benfica B - Ginasio 97-100

Everything could happen in Lisbona at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Ginasio and 4th placed Benfica B had identical 3-3 record. But Benfica B was not able to use a home court advantage and was edged by the opponent from Figueira da Foz 100-97 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 3 points. Ginasio shot 61.4 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international center Marco Goncalves (206-84) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Pedro Marques (183-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 assists for the winners. Guard Rafael Santos (175-99) answered with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and center Ricardo Monteiro (208-97) added 26 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Benfica B. Five Ginasio and four Benfica B players scored in double figures. Ginasio (4-3) moved-up to third place in South, which they share with Academica. Benfica B at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Ginasio will face Moscavide (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Benfica B's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Lisbona Belenenses CF.
