Regular Season Round 8: Satu Mare - Sf.Gheorghe 59-78

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Satu Mare (6-1) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Sf.Gheorghe (8-0) 78-59. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Satu Mare. Sf.Gheorghe dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Satu Mare's 22. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. International point guard Annemarie Godri-Parau (172-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 8 assists. Swedish guard Nathalie Fontaine (188-93, college: Ball St., agency: LBM Management) contributed with 22 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Sf.Gheorghe's coach Zoran Mikes used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Taneisha Harrison (182-89, college: Pittsburgh) replied with 22 points and her fellow American import guard Porchia Green (180-87, college: Ball St.) added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists in the effort for Satu Mare. Sf.Gheorghe have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-0 record. Satu Mare at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. Sf.Gheorghe are looking forward to face Cluj Napoca (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Satu Mare will play against Alexandria (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
