There was a surprise result when ninth ranked ChemCats Chemnitz (4-7) edged at home higher ranked Herner TC (6-5) 66-64 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 20-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. ChemCats Chemnitz made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Swedish forward Abigail Asoro (183-93, college: Iowa Western CC) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Valerie McQuade (183-93, college: Niagara) helped adding 16 points. Dutch guard Karin Kuijt (174-90) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and Dutch forward Jill Bettonvil (188-92) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Four Herner TC players scored in double figures. ChemCats Chemnitz moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Saarlouis. Herner TC at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. ChemCats Chemnitz will face higher ranked TH Wohnbau Angels (#3) in Noerdlingen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Herner TC will play on the road against TV Saarlouis Royals and hope to win that game.
