Regular Season Round 9: Stevnsgade - Vaerlose 76-53
Date: December 8, 2017
There was no surprise when 5th ranked Vaerlose (2-7) was crushed on the road by third ranked Stevnsgade (5-4) 76-53. It looked good early as Vaerlose took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Stevnsgade had a 19-14 second period charge getting the lead and Vaerlose was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 53-76. They outrebounded Vaerlose 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Stevnsgade especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Vaerlose's players. It was a good game for forward Emilie Hesseldal (186-90, college: Colorado St.) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. The former international guard Ida Pretzmann (178-90, college: TCU) contributed with 28 points and 6 assists for the winners. Forward Frida Formann (178-1) answered with 14 points and 5 rebounds and American center Paige Cashin (193-95, college: S.Florida) added 5 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Vaerlose. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Stevnsgade maintains third place with 5-4 record having six points less than leader Horsholm. Newly promoted Vaerlose keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Stevnsgade will play against league's second-placed Virum on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vaerlose will play against the league's leader Horsholm and hopes to get back on the winning track.
