Regular Season Round 8: Sampaense - Maia Basket 62-89

Date: December 8, 2017
Very significant was Maia Basket's (#2) 27-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers Sampaense in North 89-62. The game without a history. Maia Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Maia Basket forced 22 Sampaense turnovers. The winners were led by British guard Devan Bailey (187-89, college: Cent.Conn.St.) who scored that evening 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and point guard Goncalo Madureira (185-98) supported him with 19 points. Even 10 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Jordan Martin (203-93, college: Missouri St.) did not help to save the game for Sampaense. Power forward Helder Carvalho (205-84, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Four Sampaense players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Maia Basket have a solid three-game winning streak. Maia Basket maintains second position in North with 7-1 record behind leader Imortal. Sampaense at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. Maia Basket will play against Vasco (#6) in Porto in the next round. Sampaense will play on the road against Sanjoanense in Sao Joao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
