Regular Season Round 10: CAB Madeira - AD Vagos 53-49

Rather predictable result in Funchal where third ranked CAB Madeira (7-2) defeated 5th ranked AD Vagos (5-5) 53-49. It looked good early as AD Vagos took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then CAB Madeira had a 14-10 second period charge getting the lead and AD Vagos were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 49-53. CAB Madeira forced 20 AD Vagos turnovers. Strangely AD Vagos outrebounded CAB Madeira 44-25 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. International point guard Ines Viana (166-94) notched 14 points to lead the effort and guard Catarina Mateus (167-98) supported her with 10 points. Even 8 points and 14 rebounds by the former international center Ana Teixeira (185-79) did not help to save the game for AD Vagos. International point guard Ines Faustino (170-92) added 14 points for lost side. AD Vagos' coach Joao Janeiro rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. CAB Madeira have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. AD Vagos at the other side dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. CAB Madeira will play against Ovarense (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. AD Vagos will play against Olivais (#12) in Coimbra and hope to get back on the winning track.
