Regular Season Round 11: Benfica - Vitoria SC 72-45

Rather expected game in Lisbona where 8th ranked Vitoria SC (3-8) was rolled over by fifth ranked Benfica (7-5) 72-45 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. Vitoria SC was better in third quarter 20-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Vitoria SC to just 4 points in second quarter and to 14 points in first half. They outrebounded Vitoria SC 42-25 including 17 on the offensive glass. Benfica looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Vitoria SC's players. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Ladondra Johnson (178, college: Young Harris) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Dejza James (185, college: Arizona) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Benfica's coach Andre Cardoso felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Carissa Crutchfield (173-92, college: Arizona) produced 25 points and forward Trudy Armstead (185-91, college: Northwestern St.) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The victory was the third consecutive win for Benfica. They moved-up to fourth place. Vitoria SC lost their sixth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. Benfica will face league's second-placed CAB Madeira in Funchal in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vitoria SC will play at home against the league's leader Uniao Sportiva (#1) and hope to win that game.
