Regular Season Round 8: Steaua CSM - UBT Cluj Napoca 89-75

Very important is a road loss of second ranked UBT Cluj Napoca (5-2) against eighth ranked Steaua CSM (5-3) on Saturday night. Visiting UBT Cluj Napoca was defeated by Steaua CSM in Bucuresti 89-75. It looked good early as UBT Cluj Napoca took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Steaua CSM had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and UBT Cluj Napoca was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-89. Steaua CSM made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Steaua CSM outrebounded UBT Cluj Napoca 33-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. UBT Cluj Napoca was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Brandon Taylor (178-94, college: Utah) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 assists and Serbian power forward Dragan Zekovic (209-87, agency: BeoBasket) who added 27 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. International Nandor Kuti (197-97) responded with 14 points and 5 assists and American-Liberian guard Lasan Kromah (198-91, college: Connecticut) scored 18 points and 5 steals. Steaua CSM moved-up to fifth place, which they share with CSU Sibiu. Defending champion UBT Cluj Napoca dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Steaua CSM will play against Timba Timosoara (#10) in Timisoara in the next round where they are favorite. UBT Cluj Napoca will play on the road against Craiova (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
