Bottom-ranked Beira Mar (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 67-62 loss to seventh ranked Academico FC (2-7) in Porto. Strangely Beira Mar outrebounded Academico FC 39-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. Power forward Pedro Gouveia (192-94) nailed 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and forward Joao Ribeiro (190-93) accounted for 16 points. Academico FC's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Andre Jackson (198, college: Bowie St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 20 rebounds and guard Goncalo Catarino (173-94) added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Beira Mar in the defeat. Academico FC maintains seventh place in North with 2-7 record. Beira Mar lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with nine games lost. Academico FC's next round opponent will be higher ranked Sanjoanense (#4) in Sao Joao and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Beira Mar will play at home against the league's leader Esgueira / Oli (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
