There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Mainz (4-8) beat at home 10th ranked Crailsheim II (4-8) 91-82 on Sunday. Mainz forced 28 Crailsheim II turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Swingman Philipp Schoen (196-87) fired 20 points, 6 assists and 4 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Naturalized American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) chipped in 19 points. Four Mainz players scored in double figures. Mainz's coach Christian Zander allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Eric Ross (201-94, college: Shorter) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and forward Vincent Hoffmann (206-1) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Mainz moved-up to tenth place in South-West, which they share with Kronberg and Crailsheim II. Mainz will face higher ranked TV Langen (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
