Eighth-ranked Galatasaray (5-6) made lots of trouble for second ranked Besiktas (9-2) in Istanbul. Besiktas managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. Besiktas players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American-Cameroonian DJ Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American swingman Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 19 points for the winners. American swingman Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American-FYR Macedonian center Richard Hendrix (203-86, college: Alabama, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Galatasaray. Four Besiktas and five Galatasaray players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Besiktas. They maintain second place with 9-2 record behind leader Tofas, which they share with Fenerbahce. Galatasaray at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Banvit BK. Besiktas will play against Pinar Karsiyaka (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Galatasaray will play against Sakarya BSB (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
