There was a surprise result in Oldenburg where ninth ranked EWE Baskets (7-6) defeated higher ranked Brose Baskets (8-5) 81-74 on Sunday. EWE Baskets made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game, while Brose Baskets only scored six points from the stripe. Brose Baskets were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) stepped up and scored 28 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Mickey McConnell (182-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. At the losing side Serbian power forward Dejan Musli (213-91) responded with 13 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Dorell Wright (206-85) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Brose Baskets' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. EWE Baskets maintains ninth place with 7-6 record. Defending champion Brose Baskets dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. EWE Baskets will face Mitteldeutscher BC (#13) in Weissenfels in the next round.
