Regular Season Round 13: Jena - Walter Tigers 74-69
Date: December 17, 2017
Very expected game when 18th ranked Walter Tigers (1-12) were defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Science City Jena (5-7) 74-69 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Science City Jena looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Derrick Allen (201-80, college: Mississippi) stepped up and scored 15 points for the winners and swingman Brandon Spearman (191-91, college: Hawaii) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Barry Stewart (193-88, college: Mississippi St.) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and forward Reggie Upshaw (203-95, college: Middle Tenn.St.) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Science City Jena moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Walter Tigers stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Science City Jena will face league's second-placed ALBA Berlin on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Walter Tigers will play against Braunschweig (#14) and hope to win that game.
